分子状酸素のC-H結合へのインサーション
Molecular oxygen enables the oxidation of a CH group to an alcohol and finally to a ketone in the presence of manganese(II).
This surprise transformation is reminiscent of the story of “The Ugly Duckling”, written by Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875).
The manganese ion is 6-coordinate with quite irregular geometry ( = 92.8°)a. A 2-fold axis runs through the metal ion and bisects the angle between the two cis bromide ions.
The dpeo ligands are bidentate, forming 5-membered -diimine chelate rings, with the oxime nitrogen donors in the same plane as the bromide ions and the pyridyl donors apical.
The uncoordinated pyridyls and oxime OH groups are involved in intermolecular H-bonds, forming double-layered sheets lying perpendicular to the c axis. The principal interactions between the sheets are (aromatic)C-H….Br hydrogen bonds.
